Board retreats and meetings usually focus on alignment: alignment of board members and key staff around key objectives and initiatives; alignments between the board and staff; or alignment of priorities and/or actions to be taken with regard to a key operational issue.
Because of the special nature of these retreats, one or more key staff members are typically included and/or involved in the retreat planning.
Board retreats can also be effectively used to increase board member knowledge and skill.
