Families in business operate in an extremely complex and interdependent environment. Many facilitators try to manage this reality by reducing the complexity – i.e., artificially “separating” the various components of the system – the family, the operation of the business, and the ownership of the business – for consideration and discussion.
Beware of this approach – the parts do NOT add up to the whole. Again, you need a facilitator who will accept and engage with the complexity of the system – and help you do the same.
